The First Swim Meet

Last Saturday, Jillian had her first swim meet.  It was in Waldron.   On a Saturday.   And warm-ups started at 7:30.   In the morning.   She had also just gotten back from church camp the day before.   She had missed most of the week's practices, and she had "just back from camp" crankyitis.   That said, she did very well.   We had no idea what to expect since we had never done this before.   She swam 2 relays and 3 individual events.   Her relay teams came in 3rd and 6th - overall.   She won her heat for freestyle.   We only had one meltdown where she cried and said she wanted to quit.   That was after she came in 2nd in her heat for breaststroke.   She is really good at it, and she thought she was going to win.   She just barely lost, and this upset her greatly.   She got over it, and we shall swim again on Friday.

The numbers on her arm are the race number, heat number, and lane number.   It is an easy way for the kiddos to remember where to be and when.

We were so proud of her - minus the meltdown.  With this being the first meet, her camp week just wrapping up, and our many questions about how things were going to work, we think she did great.   Hopefully she will keep improving as the summer goes.
