Life with a 12-Day Old

Now that the Thanksgiving holiday is behind us, allow me to update you on life here at the Mills' home. Harrison is doing much better on his night time activities. He is still waking up once in the night but we are not up for 5 straight hours like we were. He gets up somewhere between 2 and 4, but once I get him down (1 1/2 to 2 hours later), he is sleeping until morning. He is nursing and seems to be doing well. We'll find out officially later in the week at his 2 week appointment but he is peeing and pooping which seem like good signs to me.

He and I are working on establishing a nice routine this week. It is necessary that he eat at 7 in the morning so that I can get Jillian to school on time. If he eats every 3 1/2 hours throughout the day, he eats at 2 in the afternoon which puts us ready to pick up Jillian after school. He is having to work his life around his sister - even from this early point - which is something I suspect he'll just have to get used to since she is so much older than him.

Speaking of Jillian, she has been amazing. She is such a helper and takes most of the changes in her life brought about with the arrival of Little One in stride. Yesterday we had one of those "if it can go wrong, it will" mornings and she coped fairly well. I got up a little late. We had not laid out her clothes the night before. Harrison ate slowly. He pooped just as we were leaving. The electricity was out (??), so everything was being done by flashlight. Jillian had to get her own breakfast, pack her snack, and get herself completely ready. Then I went to leave and the garage door wouldn't open. That whole electricity thing had slipped my mind about the garage door. I have manually opened that door once in the 9 years we have lived here, so I didn't remember how to do it. I called Nathan who said he would have to call me back. Jillian did cry at this point. She was worried she was going to miss another day of school or be late. And I had told her I was not walking her in because it was raining. But when we got to school (and not late - close but not late - by the way), she hopped out and went in. Her teacher said she had a good day. So she is being a big help and learning a little independence along the way. Harrison at the Mills' Family Thanksgiving with
