It Is Summer, People

So I have been slacking in a big way.  I get it; I know it.  There has been a whole lot of running around, more lazing around, and day-to-day stuff that leads to no blogging for many reasons.   No real big stories, not a lot of sitting at the computer time, and my brain just taking a break.

Jillian did swim in her first swim meet weekend before last.  She did well - and very well considering she had just returned home from church camp that morning, she took a nap in the car to the meet, and she had had only one practice that week.   She won her heat in the freestyle.  She placed 7th overall on her breaststroke.  But I was most excited that all of her times had improved since last year.  She shaved off anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds in each of her events.  I have told her from the beginning that I don't care if she wins (although it is great, who am I kidding?), but I want her to improve.  And she has so I am pretty pleased.

I also went to my 20th year class reunion.   To be completely honest, I was not excited about going.   The longer I have been out, the more distanced I feel from that "world".   But we were going to be in town, so I felt compelled to go.  And I am happy that I did.  I got to see some people that I hadn't seen in 20 years.   We got to catch up and meet each other's kids.   We looked at old pictures and laughed.   It isn't something I want to do all the time, but I do appreciate what it means.

The Mills had their annual camping trip at the lake.  Jillian and Nathan went up on Friday and Harrison and I joined them the next morning.  We played in lake and rode the jet ski.   It was a good day.  Harrison spent the night Saturday night - that was a first.   Nathan said he did great, so maybe next year, he can spend the entire weekend up there.

I am trying something new tonight...   I am going to grill some pork chops for my family.  For those of you who might not know, I don't eat pork.  I don't have any real reason except that I just don't care for it.  I will eat it if you put enough BBQ sauce on it so that it doesn't taste like pork.  But I have said for years that I needed to branch out and cook some since the rest of my family enjoys it.  We will see.  I am planning lots of other stuff (fresh squash and okra, corn on the cob, salad, and peach crisp) just in case the main course is a flop.   I am a realist!

Still reading A Tale of Two Cities but I have made great strides in the last week or so.   I hope to finish this week and move on to something else.   I have a whole sack full of options that are just sitting and waiting on me.   It is the best of times and the worst of times.   ;)
