Yesterday evening my Granny went to be with Jesus. She had a stroke in the fall and she has not been the same since then. In the last couple of weeks, it became apparent that the end was coming. I know that it is for the best. It is what she wanted. But she was my last living grandparent and I cannot stand it.
My Granny was a tremendous woman of God. She loved Jesus and had a true servant's heart. She helped people in any and every way she physically could. And when there was nothing she could do physically, she prayed. She prayed for all of us everyday.
Her home was a place of warmth and joy as I wrote about a couple of years back. There was nothing like going to Granny and Papaw's. The tv was too loud, the smell of wonderful food cooking, the sounds of talking and laughter.
When I was little, Granny and Papaw owned a store in their little town. Once a week my mom would go over and work in the store so Granny could be home doing stuff around the house. During the summers, we would go with her. If the day was pretty, we would walk back to their house with Granny - only after picking out a lunch for the day. Somedays we would stop at the school playground and she would let us play for a little while. We would get to the spend the day with Granny and her undivided attention.
My Granny's legacy was her love of God and her love of family. She showered every single one of us with her love. She always remembered who liked what and who didn't like what. She made quilts for all of the grandchildren for their high school graduation. She also made me a wedding ring quilt for when I got married. I will cherish those forever and pass them down to my children.
Granny loved Jesus and people. We will miss her so much, but we know in our hearts that she is sitting at the feet of Jesus worshipping this morning. Love you, Granny. Thank you for your legacy.
