DC, Swimming, and Other Life Stuff

Travel week 2 is in the books. Jillian and I boarded a plane to DC a week ago today. We saw many sights, experienced hot, hot, hot temperatures, and got to see my students have some success at National History Day.
We went to the Newseum - which has become one of my favorite things to do in DC. They have several different exhibits, but one is about the FBI and organized crime.  So here is J with some famous folk from that era.
She got to create her own newspaper.  I convinced her that she should name it the The Daily J.I.M. (a play on Gem). She got to pick the articles and layout and then it showed up on the big display board.
Resting on the way to the monuments. There is no good way to get to the monuments. The Metro stop is not close and there are no shortcuts. This was the hottest day we were there (and Nathan's daughter may have been kind of whiney), so we rested a lot.
This is taken from the Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Monument is in the background but you can't see it.

We also visited the Natural History museum where we located some turtles.

On Wednesday night we went to see Newsies at the National Theatre.  It was so good. I had not seen that show before, but it was energetic, fun, and well done. I think it was Jillian's favorite thing about this particular trip.

And we went to Ford's Theatre and visited the museum. We went the other time that J went with me, but we didn't do the museum. The museum is very thorough and our time was short, but we did run into Abe...
Upon returning home, Jillian had her first swim meet Saturday. It was fine. She had not been to one practice because of our travel schedule, so she was not really ready. But it was good for her, and she will do it again this week in Russellville - after having been at church camp all week.  Should make for a great time!

This week is our final travel week. I am going to Little Rock. Jillian is going to church camp. Harrison is going to my parents'. And Nathan will be here.  I am so ready for this to all be over and done. After this everything is pretty much around the house. It is nice to have the luxury of being all over the place, but I miss my home and my people.  Here's to one more week...
