My favorite show on this side of Heaven is Les Miserables. I have seen it several times and would go again tomorrow if possible. This is on my mind because I got to see it this past weekend. A little different version, but outstanding nonetheless. The Young Actors Guild here in the River Valley does a show every June. Kids from all over the area are in the production - and they are the best of the best. One of my former students had the lead - Jean Valjean. Can I be honest? Of course I can, it is my blog... I was a little unsure of this casting. I love this young man and find him to be great, but he usually plays the clown. I just wasn't sure he could pull off this very serious role. Oh, my! I spent a good portion of the show near tears because he was so AWESOME! And he wasn't alone - the entire cast was wonderful. This was probably my favorite production of Les Mis I have seen - not because it was the best - but because I felt invested. I was just overwhelmed by how proud I felt for these dear children.
I also came to realize that I have a secret desire - that my girl will want to do this. To take part in our drama program and flourish there. Mind you, I will not push her to do something she isn't interested in (in terms of extracurricular stuff). And I will be proud of her no matter what niche she lights on, but this one would be pretty amazing (for her mama at least)!!
